I was wondering about...
Shipping
All original paintings are carefully packaged by me and can be shipped to any physical street address in the USA. I build a wooden crate using plywood and lumber. I secure your piece in multiple places to a removable strip of wood (or two) that is flat against the bottom of the crate. Your painting is then wrapped in plastic to protect the surface. I line the box with styrofoam leaving little to no wiggle room. I promise you, I do everything I can to protect the piece as it is on it's way to you. If it does arrive damaged, please let me know immediately! I'll work with you to solve it as outlined in the return policy below.
For my original paintings, I will cover the cost to ship it via UPS, but I do ask for you to cover the cost of supplies for the crate - which is $35. This way we are basically splitting the shipping cost 50/50. Larger pieces will also include a oversized fee of $25. This ratio is closer to 25/75, and I'm taking care of the larger portion for you :)
Shipping prices for prints and giclees will vary based on distanced traveled and the size of the piece. If you want an accurate shipping estimate ahead of time you can pop the item into the cart and go through the beginning part of the checkout process where you enter your shipping address. It should tell you exactly how much shipping will be :)
*PO Boxes are not supported for original paintings at this time. I can only ship to a physical street address.
Return Policy
First, let me say thank you for considering my art as an addition to your home! It is my absolute pleasure to think I can help provide some bit of happiness in your daily life! I do want to be sure you are happy with your new art. If the artwork is damaged in any way during shipping, please contact me right away! Please send along photos so that I can file an insurance claim. At that time, we will discuss either choosing a new piece of equal or lesser value or I can issue you a refund minus the shipping cost.
If you are simply unhappy with your painting, you may return it within 7 business days. Please send me an email so I can send you the return address and other pertinent info. Return shipping fees are the customer’s responsibility. You must package the painting in exactly the same fashion as it was when it arrived to you. Please re-use the packaging and follow the packaging directions that I emailed to you along with my address. Those packaging directions will help to keep it in perfect condition during transit back to me. Once I have the painting back in perfect condition, I will proceed with a refund minus shipping charges or I'll send the new piece of equal or lesser value.
If you would like to see how a painting might look in your space before purchasing feel free to take a nice photo of the space straight-on and email it to me. I will need the measurements of the wall as well. If you don't have the wall measurements, please provide the measurements of the furniture, like the long edge of a table or couch. Be sure to measure the side that is parallel to the floor or the bottom of the photo. I will then Photoshop the painting in so you can see how it would look.
If your piece was a custom commission, there are no refunds or exchanges. All sales of commissioned pieces are final. This is because of how connected we are during the process. For more details on how commissions work, please check the Commission section right below this ;)
Commissions
Yay! I'm so glad you want to work with me to create a piece of art that is truly everything you hoped for! I'll be in contact often during the process to ensure you love the piece. A 50% deposit is due before I begin working on the painting. That deposit is non-refundable, since I will immediately begin working on your piece which includes buying and cutting the materials. The biggest update will be once the canvas has been stretched, but not gessoed yet. This will be your last chance to make any structural change requests. Payment in full is due before I ship the piece or at the time of delivery if you're local. The rights to the work are retained by me, allowing, but not limited to, use in advertising, on a website, or for reproductions. I do not create reproductions of commissioned pieces in their entirety, but I do like to do some close up sections. If you were to ever decide to sell your commissioned piece (gasp!), I hope you would come to me first. I'd love to visit with an old friend :)
What is a Canvas Giclee? or Fine Art Paper?
What is a Canvas Giclee? It's essentially a high quality reproduction print on canvas. These Gallery Wraps are ready to hang - no frame required. The edges are "mirror wrapped" to make it seem like the image continues around the sides, but keeps the full image is on the front surface. These are UV protected and scratch resistant.
What is Fine Art Paper? It's high quality paper that holds a ton of saturated ink without bleeding. This means that colors of the print seem to jump off the page. These are textured to add a little more dimension to the print, making it closer to how it looked on the original canvas. The paper itself is acid-free and archival quality; so, it should last a really long time. I recommend getting a frame for it to protect it even more.
Cleaning and Care - Tips and Tricks
Since the oil paint is mixed with varnish, your painting should last a really long time! Direct sunlight all day long isn't the best for any piece of art, but I have done all I can to make my art as UV protected as possible.
Why is there cloth covering the back? In order to pull the painted canvas back (think towards the wall) I had to add strips of canvas across the back of the piece and sew them to surface canvas with thread. Those strips of canvas are crucial to the integrity of the painting. I have added a sheer fabric covering the back to protect those strips from being grabbed and used to carry the piece. Once the threads break, the painting is much more prone to damage and losing it's shape. If the fabric rips or you decide to remove it, please do take care with those strips of canvas across the back of your piece.
If you have noticed your painting is looking a little dusty, grab a feather duster, micro-fiber cloth or anything soft and non-abrasive and give it a quick wipe. Please do not use any cleaning agent on the painting. If something sticky does end up on the painting surface, please brush your teeth, wait about one hour (drinking water is ok, but anything else is a no-no), then use cotton swabs and your saliva to gently wipe at the substance on the painting. Saliva contains enzymes, which break down starches and fats sometimes found in grime, without affecting the paint beneath. Just don't tell your friends ;) There are also synthetic saliva cleaning solutions available for purchase if the idea grosses you out too much.
How am I supposed to hang this thing?
Great question. You may have noticed that I did not sign the front of your piece. That is because these paintings can be hung in any direction! Grab a friend or loved one and ask them to hold the painting up different ways and see which way looks best in your space! If you're looking for a recommendation on which way is up, check out the back of the piece--I signed it with my preferred side up. (At least, it was my preferred side at that moment. It's hard for me to pick favorites!) You can always take a picture of the wall you ware thinking of hanging it on and send it to me for my advice on which way is "up". If you reach out to me ahead of time, I can do some mock ups for you in photoshop, just don't forget to include some measurements for me.
Each piece will come with either d-rings or a wire. You can hang it from any single d-ring unless otherwise noted on the product description and in the package. If you'd prefer to hang it at an angle, you can either use two d-rings or string a wire across the back. If you are interested in learning how to attach the wire, let me know and I'll show you how to secure it :)
Noooo! The piece I LOVE is sold/unavailable!
No worries! Send me a message, and I'll see about making one for you. If you're looking for an original painting, it would follow the same guidelines as a commissioned piece. However, due to the nature of the process, I cannot guarantee an EXACT replica. Each piece will be unique. Which makes it special and just for you!
Now, if you are looking for a print or a reproduction in a different size or medium, please send me a message including the size and medium you would prefer! I'll let you know if it's possible or not. If it's not possible, I'll try to suggest something else instead. If it is, I can usually accommodate those requests pretty easily. If it is so easy, why didn't I already do it? Because I'd rather be painting or spending time with my loved ones :)
Still wondering about something?
Send me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
I am not glued to my email, so it may take a couple days, but I promise to respond :)
